La cocina abierta de Silvia / The Silvia's opened kitchen

Hace unos días, Silvia recurrió a nuestro servicio a domicilio para que le asesoráramos sobre unas obras que pretende hacer en su casa.

A Silvia le gustan los espacios despejados, ya realizó una reforma en la que eliminó el recibidor y reunió y reconfiguró los dormitorios. Ahora está pensando en eliminar los tabiques que cierran la cocina y unificarla con el comedor y el salón, de esta forma, cuando organice alguna cena para familiares y amigos, podrá disfrutar de su compañía mientras termina de cocinar.

Puntos de partida:

• Visualmente se pretende un espacio único de distribuidor, comedor, cocina y salón.
• El comedor quedará más vinculado a la cocina que al salón.
• El salón se consigue ampliar buscando más de un ambiente.

El mayor inconveniente que tienen este tipo de reformas es que eliminar tabiques, el armario del pasillo y la hilera de armarios superiores supone una pérdida de almacenaje que tendremos que suplir en la medida de lo posible mediante mobiliario externo y un módulo-torre que albergue el horno, el microondas y armarios. Por ello sugerimos situar en el salón un aparador lineal, de módulos aditivos para que se pueda alargar todo lo que sea necesario, y de un fondo no muy profundo, unos 40cm, de modo que integre y unifique todo el espacio, sin robarle protagonismo al resto de mobiliario.

Otro de los temas a considerar es la posible unificación del lavadero con la cocina. Para ello se propone una solución intermedia: el lavadero es una zona de almacenaje y de instalaciones que no siempre puede estar visible, así que quitaremos la puerta y la sustituiremos por una cortina decorativa de eslabones o abalorios, que no molesta al paso pero sí evita la visibilidad. Para no perder aislamiento, se instalará una ventana de aluminio trasdosando la celosía exterior, con ello no se vulnera la estética de la fachada como elemento común del edificio.

Vamos con las dos opciones sugeridas, que no se diferencian mucho entre sí:

• Ambas mantienen la misma longitud de bancada que se tenía en un principio.
• Ambas comparten el orden de distribución de los electrodomésticos, solucionando la extracción de humos mediante una campana decorativa desde el techo.
• Las dos desplazan el comedor a la parte trasera, compartiendo función con el nuevo distribuidor.

Opción A

En la opción A, se ha mantenido la bancada sencilla, de fondo convencional de 60cm. Para evitar las salpicaduras del fregadero y la cocina, el murete de comunicación con el salón se eleva unos 15 o 20cm sobre la bancada.

Opción B

En la opción B se duplica el ancho de la bancada a 1,20m, dándole más apariencia de isla, que, quizá, es lo que más le apetecía a Silvia. La parte de bancada que da al salón se puede utilizar como barra con taburetes o como almacenaje, instalando armarios inferiores en combinación con el aparador de enfrente.

El módulo-torre junto a la nevera podría quedar como la imagen inferior.

A few days ago, Silvia appealed to our home delivery service in order to help her to take some decissions about a refurbishment she wants to do at her house.
Silvia likes the open spaces and, some time back, she made a reform in which the hall was taken off and some bedrooms were joined and re-formed. Now she is thinking of removing the walls of the kitchen to unify it with the dining room and the lounge, so, when she organizes some dinners for relatives and friends, will be able to enjoy her company while she is cooking.
Starting points:

• Visually, Silvia wants one and only space formed by the distribution hall, dining room, kitchen and lounge.
• The dining room will be closer to the kitchen, instead of the lounge.
• The lounge becomes bigger with more than one environment.

The great handicap that this kind of reforms have is that to take walls, the cupboard of the corridor and the row of top cupboards off, result a loss of storage that we will have to replace as far as possible with some external furniture and a module-column that shelters the oven, the microwave and some cupboards. For it, we suggest to place in the lounge a linear buffet, of additive modules in order to make them as long as necessary, with a not very deep bottom, may be 40cm, integrating and unifying the whole space, without stealing protagonism to the rest of furniture.
Other of the topics to consider is the unification of the washer room with the kitchen, if it is possible. For it, we propose an halfway solution: the washer room is a zone for storage and installations that not always can be presentable, so we will remove the door and will replace it with a decorative curtain of links or beads, that allows to go through it but avoids the visibility. For not to lose isolation, a window of aluminium will be installed at the back of the exterior lattice, so, the aesthetics of the façade will not be damaged as a shared element of the building.
Let's go with both suggested options, which do not differ very much between them:

• Both have the same length of bench they had before.
• Both share the distribution order of the domestic appliances, including a decorative extractor hood from the ceiling.
• Both move the dining area to the back side, sharing function with the new distribution hall.

Option A: the common bench remains of 60cm of depth. To avoid the splashes of the sink and the oven, the wall of communication with the lounge rises over 15 or 20cm on the bench.
Option B: the width of the bench doubles to 1,20m, giving it more appearance of cooking island, which, probably, is what Silvia was desiring more. The part of bench that gives to the lounge can be used as a bar with stools or as storage, installing low cupboards in combination with the buffet in front. The module-column close to the fridge, could have the image of the last picture.
